Day 1: Arrival in Battambang (-/L/D)
Your guide will pick you up from your accommodation and accompany you to Battambang. After checking in at your hotel, enjoy a relaxed first day exploring the town at your own pace. Wander through local markets, shop for unique finds, and get a firsthand glimpse into the daily customs, habits, and rich cultural traditions of the Cambodian people.
Day 2: Bamboo Train, Killing Caves & Bat Cave (B/-/-)
After breakfast, set out to explore some of Battambang’s most fascinating attractions. While you're free to visit them in any order, we recommend ending the day at the Bat Cave to witness the incredible sight of thousands of bats emerging at sunset. Suggested route: Bamboo Train → Killing Caves → Bat Caves.
Bamboo Train
Your bamboo train ride takes about one hour, including a 20-minute ride out, a short break at some local roadside shops, and a return journey. What makes this experience truly unique is that it runs on a single-track rail, meaning trains go in both directions on the same line.
If you encounter a train coming from the opposite direction, no problem! One train is quickly dismantled—just lift the bamboo frame and wheels off the track, let the other pass, then reassemble and continue your ride. The whole process takes less than 30 seconds and is part of the charm.
Killing Caves of Phnom Sampeau
Next, visit the deeply moving Killing Caves, a sobering site tied to Cambodia’s tragic history under the Khmer Rouge. Victims were brought here, killed, and thrown into the cavern below. As you descend the steps, you'll find a memorial shrine filled with skulls and bones—a haunting tribute to the lives lost. Your guide will share the heartbreaking stories, offering important historical context. Out of respect for the victims, photography is strongly discouraged.
Bat Caves
Conclude the day at the Bat Cave, just in time for sunset. Every evening, thousands of bats stream out in an astonishing natural display. It’s a breathtaking end to an emotionally rich and historically insightful day.
Day 03: Wat Ek Phnom & Departure from Battambang (B/L/-)
Start your morning early with breakfast at the hotel, then rent a bicycle for the day—rental costs are typically between $1–$2. Begin your ride along the riverside route toward Wat Ek Phnom, a peaceful and scenic journey that takes about an hour. Be sure to bring water and sunscreen, as there’s little shade along the way, but rest assured—the experience is absolutely worth it.
Once you arrive, take your time exploring Wat Ek Phnom, an ancient temple surrounded by quiet countryside and a serene atmosphere. It’s the perfect place to unwind, reflect, and take in the spiritual essence of rural Cambodia.
On your way back to Battambang, make a stop at M Boat Noodles, a beloved riverside eatery known for its tasty local dishes—a great way to enjoy authentic Khmer flavors before saying goodbye to the city.
Depart Battambang in the late afternoon, filled with unforgettable memories of your journey!
