DAY 2. JUNGLE RIDE, ANCIENT CITIES AND SUNSET QUAD BIKE RIDE
Cycling in the morning:
Take a leisurely bike ride to Ta Prohm, built as a Mahayana Buddhist monastery and university by King Jayavarman VII. This temple is one of the most atmospheric in the whole region, with bloated tree trunks eerily snaking in and out of the ruins and large trees growing straight out of the stones. It is an atmospheric, jungle-covered complex that is lovely in the morning light with parrots and other exotic birds flying about the treetops and very few other visitors.Continue on to Ta Nei and Takeo temple before heading to Angkor Thom, which translates to “Great City” in Khmer. Cycle through the famous Victory Gate into the temple complex flanked by impressive stone soldiers and see the famous Terrace of Elephants. There is plenty of shade around Angkor Thom and lots of flat trails, making it a great temple to explore by bike. Finish today's temples with the impressive Bayon, famous for its giant stone faces that stare out serenely across the crumbling temple.
Lunch at local restaurant, then we transfer back to your hotel to spend a few hours relaxing by the pool.
In the afternoon take a quad bike ride through the stunning Cambodian countryside immediately surrounding Siem Reap. Finish the experience with a beautiful sunset as it dips below the rice fields. Later, we return back to your hotel. Accommodation.
DAY 3. ANGKOR AT DAWN, FLOATING VILLAGES AND OX CARTS
This morning you will have the option to visit the magnificent Angkor Wat for sunrise. This temple is the largest religious building ever constructed and is one of the wonders of the world. Believed to have been undertaken as a temple and mausoleum for King Suryavarman II at the peak of the Khmer empire in the first half of the 12th century, Angkor Wat is the best-preserved of the Angkorian temples. The earlier you rise the better - the complex can get quite busy at sunrise so to arrive when the moon and the stars are still out is ideal, where you will essentially have the temples to yourselves in the most magical of settings. Lunch at local restaurant.
In the afternoon take a boat trip around Mey Chrey, a floating village on the Tonle Sap lake that is almost untouched by tourism to this day. As you head back to shore, your own ox and cart will be waiting for you to take you on a ride through local villages and farm land - a fantastic experience and a great way to mingle with the locals and see how they truly live. After an exciting day you will head back to Siem Reap town, with the option to stop en route at Artisan d'Angkors Silk Farm. Here you can see the production of silk from caterpillars into beautifully finished handicrafts. Later, we transfer back to your hotel for accommodation.
DAY 4. PINK CARVINGS AND BUTTERFLIES - BANTEAY SREI TEMPLE
After breakfast at hotel, you will be driven about 40 minutes outside of the main complex and visit the beautiful Banteay Srey, a temple dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva that is famous for the stunning pink hue of its red sandstones. En route to Banteay Srey you will have a chance to see the Cambodian countryside with rice paddy fields, exotic trees and fruit sellers. If you like, you can even stop to see palm sugar being made in a local village, as well as a small butterfly museum.
Lunch at bongthom Homestay, near Banteay Srei Temple. Your last stop of the day will be the crematorium mountain temple of Pre Rup, a perfect spot to watch the sun set. Back to your hotel for accommodation.
