DAY 2. JUNGLE RIDE IN ANCIENT CITIES AND SUNSET QUAD BIKE ADVENTURE
After breakfast, we cycle from your hotel through the checkpoint to issue your temple pass. Arrive Ta Prohm Temple. Your guide will accompany you throughout the morning.
Later, we continued to Ta Nei temple, a late 12th-century stone temple located in Angkor, Cambodia. Built during the reign of King Jayavarman VII, it is located near the northwest corner of the East Baray, a large holy reservoir. We then cycle to Takeo Temple, Takeo is a pyramid of five levels reaching a total height of 40m - the first two form the base of two enclosing courtyards, one surrounded by a simple wall and the other by a gallery, while the last three, through proportional reduction, are a massive artificial plinth for the quincunx of sanctuaries.
Finally, we enter Angkor Thom at Victory Gate and cycle to the Eastern gate. Explore Angkor Thom by bike.
Finish with bikes at Bayon Temple. Angkor Thom, this Royal city was first built under the reign of Udayadityavarman II in the 11th Century. It was destroyed when the Chams from Vietnam rose against the Khmers and invaded, sacking the city, and was subsequently renovated by King Jayavarman VII at the end of the 12th Century.
Its vast walls, some 6m wide, 8m high and 13km in length contain many monuments. The Bayon, this temple mountain, built by Jayavarman VII, is situated in the center of the city of Angkor Thom. It is a three-tiered pyramid with its entrance facing east. The central shrine is surrounded by 54 towers all crowned by gigantic faces, representing Avalokite-shvara but with the features of Jayavarman VII.
You will then be transferred to your hotel. Afternoon at leisure at the pool.
Late afternoon, we meet again for Quad Biking through the local village for a sunset ride.
Starting in the late afternoon, the Sunset tour takes you through 16 kilometers of the countryside immediately surrounding Siem Reap and ends with a beautiful view of the setting sun as it dips below the rice fields.
Later, return to your hotel for accommodation.
DAY 3. ANGKOR AT DAWN, FLOATING VILLAGES, AND OX CARTS
Early visit to Angkor Wat (sunrise optional). If arriving at Angkor around 730, most visitors have returned to their hotels for breakfast leaving the temple cool and quiet. Climb Phnom Bakheng. Very popular sunset spot when it is crazy busy! Offers good views of Tonle Sap Lake, the Angkor Forest, and also Angkor Wat. The temple is nice also. 10-minute walk, but not too demanding.
Angkor Wat: The temple complex covers 81 hectares and is comparable in size to the Imperial Palace in Beijing. Its distinctive five towers are emblazoned on the Cambodian flag and the 12th century masterpiece is considered by art historians to be the prime example of classical Khmer art and architecture. Angkor Wat's five towers symbolize Meru's five peaks - the enclosed wall represents the mountains at the edge of the world and the surrounding moat, the ocean beyond.
Return to Hotel
In the afternoon, drive out to Mechrey floating village a floating community located on the margins of Tonle Sap, nine kilometers west of Siem Reap, where the houses, schools, and even shops all sit bobbing on the water — though not in the dry season — as locals paddle around in traditional wooden boats.
Short ox cart trip around the village, supports community and is good fun for kids, no more than 20-30 mins though or parents will be uncomfortable.
Optional stop at Artisan Angkor Silk Farm on the way. Here we can see the production of silk from the caterpillar to beautiful finished crafts. Nice stop and supposedly good cause. Later, we return to your hotel for accommodation.
DAY 4. FLIGHT OF THE GIBBONS, PINK CARVINGS AND BUTTERFLIES
Flight of the Gibbons Zipling. A fantastic new addition to Angkor! Opened in 2013 by the same operator working in Thailand. Very best equipment, excellent safety, and well-trained staff. 10 zip lines through the tree canopy, the longest is 150 meters and up to 50 meters high in the tree tops. Accepts kids of all ages as long as above 100 cm.
Takes up to 4 hours including lunch. Lunch at Flight of the Gibbons (Included). We then continue to visit the elegant temple of Banteay Srei built by a Brahman in the 10th Century, this temple was dedicated to Shiva. The famous pink sandstone structure bears a series of beautiful sculptures, lintels, pediments, and friezes. It is said they must have been carved by women as the detail is too fine for the hands of a man. This gives us the origin of the Khmer name, Fortress of the Women. (It may take approx. 40 minutes’ drive).
Finally, we continue to Pre Rup for Sunset – Crematorium temple surrounded by nice countryside and good sun viewing.
Later, return to your hotel for accommodation.
