Cycling in Angkor Temples - 0730 hours to 1530 hours
40km - Medium
A day cycling tour that takes you down a different path to the highlights of the Angkor Temples: Bayon, Ta Prohm, and Angkor Wat. Your guide will meet you at the hotel lobby and start your cycling to Angkor Pass Gate. Get your pass and lead the trail towards Angkor Balloon, opposite Angkor Wat Temple.
We cycle through the local village and opportunity to take a balloon ride over the Angkor Complex. We then continue the cycle to the ancient capital of Angkor Thom (12th century), Bayon Temple (unique for its 54 towers decorated with over 200 smiling faces of Avolokitesvara), the Royal Enclosure, Phimeanakas, the Elephants Terrace and the Terrace of the Leper King.
We then cycle continue to The Jungle-clad Ta Prohm, the site of the movie 'Tomb Raider'. This quiet, sprawling monastic complex is only partially cleared of jungle overgrowth. Intentionally left partially unrestored, massive fig and silk-cotton trees grow from the towers and corridors offering some of the best tree-in-temple photo opportunities at Angkor.
We cycle and continue to Cafe Angkor for your lunch break. 1400 hours, we start your Angkor Wat Tour. The temple complex covers 81 hectares and is comparable in size to the Imperial Palace in Beijing. Its distinctive five towers are emblazoned on the Cambodian flag and the 12th century masterpiece is considered by art historians to be the prime example of classical Khmer art and architecture.
Angkor Wat's five towers symbolize Meru's five peaks - the enclosed wall represents the mountains at the edge of the world and the surrounding moat, the ocean beyond. Cycle back to your hotel and relax by the pool or pamper yourself at the hotel's Spa.
