Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Centre - Hands-On Tour (Lunch Included)

Today, you will enjoy a full day exploring the Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Centre, an animal conservation area just south of Phnom Penh that is dedicated to the recovery and rehabilitation of animals rescued from the wildlife trade. It is home to over 1,200 animals, and no animal in need is ever turned away.

You will be collected from The Governor's House at around 8 am this morning at will transfer to the rescue centre by road, stopping en route at a local market to buy fresh fruit to give to the animals as a treat! Your first activity when you arrive at the centre will be to visit the elephants, where you can see how the centre cares for and trains them.

You may even see Chhouk, an elephant who wears a prosthetic foot, having his plastic limb fitted. The rest of the morning will be spent getting up close with the leopards, gibbons, binturongs and other endangered animals that the centre has helped to rescue.

You will also have the chance to visit the tiger’s private den – an enclosure closed off to the public. After lunch, you will take a walk through the forest with Lucky, an elephant rescued by the centre and if you are lucky, she may be looking to have a quick dip where you can help bathe her. Then visit the rehabilitation nursery to see baby animals being cared for, as well as the hairy-nosed otter enclosure to see these extremely endangered animals living happily.
