Collectively, the complex consists of more than a hundred temples built of solid bricks, laterite and sandstone and from the remains. It is understood that several successions of kings have maintained this site as their capital, each time adding more temples and monuments to the capital city.

From above historical perspective, this group of monuments is extremely significant not only for Cambodia but also for the entire area of Southeast Asia, for they are the only remaining sound architectural constructions that exemplify the architectural constructions that exemplify the architecture and sculpture of the early period in sizable quantity.

Archaeological remnants of Sambor Prei Kuk monuments are distributed in the vast area of more than 4km in N-S direction and 6km monuments can be largely divided into two groups in two different areas: the area of the eastern temple group and the western city area delineated by O Krou Ke stream.
